PhotoStory Friday - Sadness

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

Kansas City Zoo-52

Daddy and I took the girls to the Zoo this last Wednesday. I took a whole three photos of the girls. The remaining one hundred and fifty others were of the countless animals we encountered. This is one of two favorites.

These are the fingers of a very old and very large Orangutan; Rufus. I can't say how long he's been at our Zoo, but it's been awhile. His eyes look sad and so do these massive hands.

He wants out.

As much as I enjoy the Zoo...

I want him out too.

Oh that makes me sad! I always think that the big cats look like they want out or like they are just really bored!

Awe, that is sad. As much fun as the zoo is, every time I go I feel so sad for all the animals!

Oh that picture makes me want to cry. I love going to the zoo but when I think of the poor animals it is a sad life.

*Interesting side note: I just read another blog right before this one who's cat was named Rufus.

His hands look old and worn, what a wonderful capture. I always think it would be nice for the captive animals to be free too. It is a double edge sword...I love to be able to see all the animals from all over the world, but oh for freedom!

Great shot! The detail is incredible, and the empathy it creates for the subject is amazing!

Well done!

Oh, that totally makes me sad for him. Locked up in a cage. I hope he at least doesn't know any different.

Man this picture is really getting to me...and Izzy has been begging us to go to the zoo.

BTW, I love your header!

Wow - amazing shot. I always get made fun of but its hard for me to take the kids to our zoo. It just makes me sad and I wish the animals had more space, more friends, more freedom to BE. I guess that is just the crazy hippy in me. ;D

That hand is so poignant! really speaks to me.
If the poor thing was released now, he wouldn't know what to do with himself. He is so used to it.
I expect he is bored.

I always feel sorry about animals being caged at zoo. I'd rather see them free like in a park.

by the way, orang utan is an origin animal of Indonesia. they live in the island Kalimantan. did you know?

Oh, Alisha. That breaks my heart....but, yes. It is an amazing capture.

They have done a lot with our Atlanta Zoo...Zoo Atlanta, whatever. I like to take the boys so that they can see the amazing animals, but it's so hard on me. Lots of what-ifs!

I'm completely torn by zoos. It's the only way most kids will ever see any of these animals up close (or relatively so), but at what price? My favorite animal at The Phoenix Zoo is the cheetah. They are gorgeous, and sleek, and powerful, and fast, fast, fast. But as much as you know they'd like to bust into high gear and do 70 mph, they barely have enough room to get out of 2nd gear. Kind of sad.

Beautiful shot. In a sad way.

Wow that is a big hand! I bet you had a lot of fun. We always have fun when we take the kids to the zoo.

Have a wonderful weekend.

It is really sad. But then I think could they survive in the wild? I am an animal lover and pictures like these just make me sad. It is a beautiful photograph!

That's really pretty neat - never really look at the hands of animals before...a little freaky though!

Love the shot! It really should be in a magazine or something!

It makes me wanna help him get out! I love the zoo, but it is sad to see some of the animals look like they are sad!

It's amazing to me how much it looks like our hands! Did you help him escape? ; )

Even though you can't see his face, you're right - just this photo of the fingers/hand does say
'sadness' Awsome shot.
