PhotoStory Friday - Czech Nursery Rhyme

Tucker Updates Are Below This Post.

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

Last weekend for Father's Day, we went camping up in a small town in Nebraska. We were attending a family reunion. This reunion was for my Mother's side, specifically celebrating my Mother's Mother. Make sense? lol!

My Mother's side of the family is Czech. A very unique and wonderful heritage flows through this side of my family and I am always intrigued and want to know so much. At this reunion, my Great Aunts are the ones you want to sit by. They tell stories and remember so much about our family. In fact, some of them even still speak Czech. Not to mention they are the best cooks. Everything they have every made and I have tasted, I've liked.

Emmy and GG Aunt Caroline

We had a great reunion and visit. I was so glad the girls were able to spend time with these amazing gals who are Izabel and Emily's Great, Great Aunts. In the photos you see here, Emily is sitting with GG Aunt Caroline. Caroline was singing her a Czech lullaby and Emily loved every minute of it.

I've tried to do a little Googling to find the words to this song, Czech or English translations, but I have not been able to. I'm emailing her to get them. All I do know is that it was a hand game and a lullably at the same time. Something about spiders and porridge and crawling up her arm. It was the sweetest rhyme and I want to learn it.

Emily had no problems with anyone holding her or anything this weekend. Many of you know that this is huge! lol! She loved being around all of these wonderful people. Izabel had a blast with the cousins and she also attached herself to a GG Aunt; Lucille. Lucille had lots of fun games and crafts to keep the kids busy (and out of the mud) and that is right up Izzy' alley.

I was so glad to have gone and I am even more elated that my girls got to meet so many members of their family and spend some time with the Great, Great Aunts.

THAT is a weekend never to be forgotten.

Those are such precious memories! I also love to sit around and listen to the old family stories, and then my uncles break out their guitars, and it's perfect.

Sounds like a great time!

That is a lovely post and I really hope that you get the words of the lullaby! (Easier in english, I would say.......unless you happened to be familiar with the czech language!
Should imagine that it would sound lovely!

I love moments like this. Something you guys will always remember and she will grow up telling her kids about it. Just precious. LOVE the look of the pictures. Her curles are too cute for words.
Have a great day!

It is so wonderful that your girls have been able to enjoy the company of the Great Greats, that isn't something many kids get to experience!

Such lovely photographs. I love family reunions.

My heritage is Czech too, on both sides, and my parents still speak it. They learned some from their parents but have been to the Czech Republic a few times also. Now I want to go!
