Emily's First Emergency Room Visit

Emily Rose made her first trip to the Emergency Room this past Saturday. After a very upsetting Friday night and Saturday morning, we had no choice but to take in a screaming baby. She did excellent and as a matter of fact, stopped crying and slept most of the time we were there. With all that Emily has been through in her first 8 weeks of life, there couldn't be much more right? Well, the official diagnosis is an inflamed colon and small intestine. Because Emily has MSPI, all the prior formulas the doctors asked us to try have caused a protein buildup in her system and therefore is causing pain and discomfort.

There is not much they can do until her system has taken at least 2 weeks to clear out. In the meantime we have been told she can safely take Tylenol as long as I am watchful of her temperature. On Thursday, prior to an ER visit, Emily saw her regular PED and they finally moved her to the Nutramigin. We must remain on this formula for at least 2 weeks. If we see no improvements by then Miss Emily will be forced to take an Amino Acid Based formula, one which Izabel didn't start until she was 12 months old.

Emily seems to be doing better since Saturday with only a few episodes of crying. The PED told me that each child we have from here on out should be started on a Hypoallergenic Formula and to forget about going down the list. Even if I were nursing the girls would most likely have the same intolerances they have now. It's not the end of the world, but I will be glad when Emily feels better. She continues to sleep so well at night. In fact she was in bed at 10pm last night, woke at 530am to eat and has been sleeping since. (it's nearly 10am)

Oh, and one more thing, Emily weighed in at 11 pounds 9 ounces on Thursday! She's really starting to fill out! Watch out Elizabeth!!
